EXIT HOLES

EXIT HOLES

Powderpost beetles are small wood destroying insects which live most of their lives in wood. After the larva pupates and adults hatch, they will create small exit holes as they leave. These holes are commonly found in hardwood floors, cabinets and other areas of new homes because the wood that was used during construction had live activity which was not visible at the time. These holes may not begin to develop for several years after the home is built though they more commonly will form within the first year.
